In this day and age, it is imperative to figure out exactly how to know if a guy likes you through text to avoid wasting your time, getting ghosted or being friend-zoned. For this reason, I decided to add my perspective as a guy by sharing how I normally behaved on text with women I liked.
If there’s one thing I can say with certainty, it would be this – you will never struggle to get a reply from him for any significant period of time.
What I mean by this is that if you have to constantly blow up his phone with texts time and time again only to receive a half-hearted reply that barely shows interest, then he probably doesn’t like you.
With that being said, let’s take a look at signs a guy likes you through text.
- He replies to you punctually.
- He uses terms of endearment on you.
- He can’t stop complimenting you.
- He keeps flirting with you.
- He texts you first.
- He double texts you.
- His texts are long and detailed.
- He checks up on you regularly.
Okay, now that you have a rough idea of how to know if a guy likes you over text, let’s discuss each of these signs in more detail.

He won’t go days without reaching out or replying to your text.
Sometimes, he’ll reply instantly to your texts and this will go on for a while.
A guy who doesn’t like you will barely make any effort to keep in touch and this will often leave you feeling confused, desperate and needy.
2. He uses terms of endearment on you
As a guy, I can tell you with absolute certainty that we would never use terms of endearment unless we like or find you attractive.
We can’t help but try to push things forward by expressing our attraction and feelings for you with these endearing terms.
These terms of endearment include the following:
He may even come up with a nickname that is cute and loving just for you.
3. He can’t stop complimenting you
If you scroll through the comment section of any girls pictures, you’ll find at least one guy hitting on her.
Complimenting a woman on her appearance, character and overall accomplishments is one of the most popular and common signs a guy likes you through text.
You’ll receive all sorts of complementary texts and that is a surefire sign of attraction.
4. He keeps flirting with you
Flirting is probably in the top 3 signs a guy likes you through text. He’ll tease you, he’ll be mischievous and he’ll use innuendos as a way of flirting with you.
The more often this happens, the more we can assume that he really likes.
Granted, some guys are just flirty by nature but when he exhibits this behavior as well as others on this list, it probably means that he likes you.
5. He texts you first
A guy who likes you will always show initiative. Rather than chasing him all the time and waiting for a reply that never comes, he’ll actually text you first.
You’ll receive good morning texts or he’ll reach out when you’ve been busy for a while and he hasn’t heard from you.
What this means is that he actually thinks about you and misses you.
To think about and miss you means that he must have some sort of attachment and feelings for you.
6. He double texts you
One of my most popular articles on this site is about double texting. It gets thousands of readers every month and most of them are guys.
Guys, in general, have a difficult time exercising emotional self control, especially through text.
When they miss you, think about you or feel any significant emotion for you, it becomes a struggle to be patient.
That’s when you’ll find a guy double or triple texting you.
It can be blatantly obvious that you’re busy but he’ll still end up double texting you and trying to gain your attention.
This is because he is invested in the conversation and probably likes you.

7. His texts are long and detailed
Healthy conversations are an important part of any relationship but they also represent someone’s level of interest.
The more effort they make into having a meaningful conversation, the more likely it is that they’re trying to connect with you on a deeper level.
Only people who like talking to you would make that much of an effort to send long and detailed texts.
This is something to make a note of when trying to figure out whether a guy likes you over text.
If he is sharing all sorts of information with you about his life and feelings, if he responds to your questions with details, asks you a ton of questions about yourself and makes an effort to contribute to the conversation, it’s a sign that he likes you.

8. He checks up on you regularly
An easy way to know if a guy likes you through text is if he makes an effort to check up on how you’re doing, what you’re doing and if you’re okay.
This can be prompted by a short phase of you being busy or unavailable to chat.
Or, it can just be something he does on a regular basis because he genuinely wants to know and cares about you.
Speaking for myself, I tend to always do this with people I care about. I’ll reach out and check up on them to make sure they’re okay and doing good.
I want to feel involved in their life because I like them.
And I’m more than certain that a guy who likes you will text to check up on you.

It’s extremely difficult for any man to hide his feelings of attraction and fondness for a woman, especially over the phone.
